Patients are awaited with the hyperbaric therapy at more then 200 places in Europe. Unfortunately, this method is not widely spread in Hungary yet. It is a stepchild of healthcare although, by its application, the treatment time of certain diseases can be shortened considerably (without any synthetic preparations) and it also plays an important role in the preservation of health.
The only single small HYPERBARIC CHAMBER in Hungary is at ORMOS Institute.

How does it work?

The hyperbaric chamber takes advantage of an old rule, Henry’s gas law, according to which the solubility of gases in fluids depends on pressure, which means that a higher amount of gas dissolves into the fluid at a higher pressure. In a hyperbaric chamber the patient inhales 92 per cent pure medical oxygen through an oxygen mask. During the hyperbaric therapy, due to the increased ambient pressure, not only the red blood cells carry the oxygen but the fluid phase of the blood, i.e. blood plasma as well. As a result of the treatment, the amount of oxygen dissolved in the blood plasma can increase to as much as 20 times the amount under normal circumstances, thus improving the oxygen supply of the cells and tissues to an outstanding extent. The blood of a high O2 concentration is transported through the blood vessels to every part of the body and the higher the oxygen concentration of the blood is the more deeply it can diffuse into the organs and tissues, even to a fourfold distance as compared to normal circumstances. The joint effect of pressure increased under controlled conditions and pure oxygen facilitates a more intensive and special healing of the patients.

When is hyperbaric therapy recommended?

Hyperbaric therapy is suitable for the treatment of several diseases. From among them, outstanding results can be achieved in the following fields:

  • Acute cerebral disasters, stroke, apoplexy, cerebral haemorrhage

  • Treatment of diabetic leg ulcers
